Incendiary devices have been set off at two ballot drop boxes — one in Portland, Oregon, and another in nearby Vancouver, Washington — in what one official called a “direct attack on democracy."

I’m not defending this type of behavior but come on, why the fuck can’t they just go through the post, this is just asking for people to fuck with it.

You can do either. They’ve both been doing all mail in voting for twenty something years now with no issues. A USPS postal box was also recently burned with a few ballots in it in Arizona.

The problem is not with the drop sites but with the growing stochastic terrorism in this country.

Because voting should have no restrictions attached to it. In other words, if you cannot afford a stamp it would restrict you. This is the basis for the voter ID laws that get struck down.

I would move these boxes to a populated place, like a firehouse. (Most definitely not a police station, lol)

      • When I’ve done mail-in voting the ballot came with a special envelope that was already addressed, had pre-paid postage, and I had to sign it after sealing my ballot inside.

the ballot should be mailed to you with a reply paid envelope and these boxes should be sent to landfill.

The US postal system doesn’t have reply-paid postage?

It does. And that’s how mail-in ballots generally work. The drop boxes are to…reduce the strain on the postal service? Idk.

So I’m going to say the great American adage: “it depends on the state.” So there isn’t really any type of standardization. States are actually in charge of how your vote is counted…so if a state decided to do away with counting actual votes and having a group of sycophants cast federal ballots to thier Orange Liege, they actually can…and there has been disturbing reports that this can/will take place.

I’m out of the norm since I’m overseas & received my ballot via email and faxed it (via email) back (all tracked and recorded).

It does. You don’t have to buy a stamp to mail your ballot in.

Fortunately, you don’t need a stamp to mail your ballot in here in Washington. Still, a lot of people prefer to use the dropboxes.
