Man, what a shit take this is. Spent two seconds on the press release. This is what they want to accomplish: "Creating housing with more data and accountability by creating clearer insights into local permitting and development decisions and deploying tools to support every community in building enough homes for all its residents, including vulnerable populations. "

And two seconds on the “nonsense generator can’t fix homelessness, how do we actually do it?” take: “To improve housing affordability, California needs to streamline and accelerate housing production and reexamine the regulations that have hindered new housing development.”

This is bullshit rage bait. I mean, can “GenAI” do this well? IMO no, but the idea of trying to solve the root problems isn’t complete dog shit.

the title of the press release:

Governor Newsom seeks to harness the power of GenAI to address homelessness, other challenges

the paragraph right before the bullet points you quoted out of context:

State agencies and departments began analyzing potential uses for GenAI and developed critical challenges within state government, particularly focusing on issues that impact vulnerable populations. Today, the Governor announces the first step in the process to potentially adopt GenAI to address the following issues identified by state agencies:

it’s literally a press release about supposedly using the nonsense generator to fix homelessness and you had to reach fucking hard to make it look like anything else — you quoted the only two fucking paragraphs that don’t mention GenAI, I fucking counted. and for what?

the included fucking summary of the press release!

What you need to know: Governor Gavin Newsom invites developers to help create Generative AI (GenAI) solutions for some of the most challenging issues facing California and its 39 million residents, including housing and homelessness.

they wrote this bit so you didn’t have to read! what the fuck is wrong with you

it’s also important to look at Newsom’s actual real-life actions to “solve the root problem”: an executive order to steal all their stuff and throw it away, presumably on the assumption that the bums will magically vanish into pixie dust

the article isn’t about homelessness at all, Newsom is getting weird about genAI and spun the wheel for a random issue to solve with genAI

fucking hell. it’s always this exact evil shit from these assholes, isn’t it? and every time they do this (and I’ve seen them do this same shit in my city over and over) they seem amazed when the unhoused people they’re victimizing don’t just fucking die like they hoped they would. instead they survive by any means necessary, like any person would; like any of us would. and every time it’s a fucking mystery to shitheads like Newsom why homelessness got “worse”

Important to note that their stuff is not only things like remaining photos of dead parents and relatives, but also medications and the documents required to get a job, both of which have to be replaced at taxpayer expense. But hey, we offered them a place in the five and a half year long wait list they were already on, so the government really is doing all it can.
