I think this is it. I am so fucking sick of being politically aware. I am tired of knowing that most of the bullshit in the US was caused by Jerry Falwell standing to lose money from desegregation. I am tired of being trans in an idiot state governed by those that fuckers he influenced over 50 years ago. I am tired of only being able to vote or hold a sign. This whole thing is fucked.

I am tired of having literal rocks thrown at me if I dare to speak when my voice doesn’t match my presented gender. I am tired of being told that I shouldn’t exist. I am tired of being completely ignored at work even with over 20 years in the trade.

I don’t know why this sent me over the edge reading this, but I am so ready to cash out my savings and live in a dark bunker, letting an ignorance of this garbage’s existence wash over me.

I say this with all of my being: The GOP and neo nazis like this fucker can sit on it and spin.

If moving to a civilized country is a potential option for you, it could pay off looking into your genealogy.

I grew up in the US and moved to Norway after feeling like the country was nose-diving politically. I remember feeling serious shame for paying taxes to fund such horrendous actions, an unwavering sense of hopelessness, and even serious depression. I remember the first time I realised how much I felt like a foreigner in my own home country, and the existential dread those words brought with them, amplified by the fact that I felt like there was nothing in my power I could do to change that. It was so far beyond awful. I’m struggling to find the words that can accurately convey how bleak and worthless life in the US felt.

And I say this as a cis white man. I’ve heard horror stories, but I can’t possibly imagine what it must be like for trans people in the US, especially in the past several years.

At some point I learned that because my grandmother was born in a certain EU country and fled during WWII, I qualified for citizenship of that country, just by proving my relation to her. It took some time, but I got the documents in order to put together my application, and left everything behind to move to Norway. With EU citizenship, you could move almost anywhere in Europe you choose. I chose Norway for many many reasons, but scandinavia in general is just so incredibly politically refreshing. Regardless of political views, the system itself just… Works.

Since you have 20+ years experience in your field, you might not even need to go though the process of getting a citizenship you may or may not qualify for as a birthright, depending on your profession. Many countries also have immigration laws in place making it extremely easy for skilled workers to relocate there, permanently. I know in Norway, the company hiring the skilled worker can essentially vouch for skilled workers, granting them the right of residency as soon as they’re hired. And there are many companies which post job listings in English, without requiring you to know the local language, because… Well, damn near everybody here is completely fluent in English and has no issue speaking English, or even switching to English for entire groups of people, even if only one person struggles with Norwegian.

But anyway, I’m sorry you’re forced to feel the way you feel living in your own home country. I can relate to parts of it at least, and even the sum of those parts was unbearable for me. So it saddens me to read messages like yours. I just wanted to offer a suggestion that worked to stop these feelings for me, and ended up being the best damn decision I’ve ever made in my life.

If you have questions or anything, feel free to send me a message.

I have no idea what you mean. I was told by my grandparents that was my heritage: “German from Russia” both spoke fluent German, not Russian. I can’t recall all the details, although they did make a pretty detailed family tree. But if you know better, yay for you, I guess.

Haha we might not get as much nice weather and sun around here as someplace like San Diego, but man, when the weather is as nice as it has been these past few days, we make sure we enjoy the hell out if it. Plus, this time of year we get more daylight hours than most of the world. It’s truly spectacular walking outside at 3am this time of year, when the streetlights don’t even need to turn on for a couple of months straight.

On the flip side, the winter months are dark and cloudy, with only around 4 hours of daylight for the weeks around the equinox, a few minutes of actual sun if you’re lucky and the clouds clear out temporarily. But if you ask me, the glorious summertime sun more than makes up for that.

Plus, when I’m leaving the bar with my friends after last call and one of us faceplants on the concrete, it’s comforting to know that calling an ambulance won’t bury anyone in debt 😁😂

Excuse my assumption, I’m just very familiar with the defensive patriotism-fuelled reactionary insults from Americans when they learn I live in Norway. I’ve never met anyone from Europe who had a similarly negative reaction to that, because why would they?

So I guess I’m a bit confused and a little curious as to what made you so sour for seemingly no reason. Care to fill me in?

Go buy firearms and join/start an LGBTQIA+ militia. Either you train to protect yourself, or you can continue what you are currently doing which is roll over and die in the torrent of hate instead of fighting it back.

You cannot escape bigotry. They spend their free time hating you, it’s their fucking hobby and brings them joy. They will eventually find you because they enjoy seeing left-leaning or LGBTQIA people suffering.

You either die soft, slow, dumb, and ignorant to how far they are willing to go to see you gone, or organize and fight it back.

We didn’t fight religious fascists and Nazis in WW2 with fucking protests and angry finger waggles and holding up signs.

I don’t often quote Marx, but this one is highly pertinent:

Under no pretext should arms and ammunition be surrendered; any attempt to disarm the workers must be frustrated, by force if necessary.

Which in my opinion, speaks to the true intent of the Second Amendment, regardless of whatever the Tribunal of Six is trying to mutate it into these days.

The thing is, unless they are willing to uproot their life and leave the country for somewhere more tolerant, there is no “getting away from it all”.

These fascist fuck stains have been hugely emboldened by the last 8 years. If Trump ends up winning in November, they can and will start forming posses to target anyone who doesn’t conform to the heteronormative ideal. In that context, being able to defend oneself — and being part of a group that is very much on the same page as you about defending theirselves — actually makes it far more comforting than you may realize.

I was going to link to Tenacious Unicorn Ranch in Colorado as a case study, but apparently they were all evicted over a year ago, despite having a positive rapport with and significant support from the surrounding community. That’s really disheartening to hear. Not sure if there’s any sort of similar communities elsewhere of a similar nature (either as successor organizations or simply philosophically similar ones), but a handful of cursory searches didn’t turn up anything.

They are already radicalized and continue to do so without stopping.

They already outnumber you and force/infiltrate local governments to enact laws that threaten your existence.

Unless you organize and do the same to counter their actions (LGBTQIA+ friendly militias that train everyday life skills, survival and marksmanship) instead of meekly arguing on the internet, they will fucking destroy you.

I’d rather be destroyed than fundamentally change my entire fucking life. Why are we never allowed to live comfortable, normal lives? Why do we always have to struggle? If they want me dead so badly, so be it. But they’ll have to kill me, am unarmed, untrained individual. If there are people ready and willing to do that, then why would I want to live on this evil planet anymore?

You are fearmongering as well, especially when it’s not even feasible for most people to go down the path you seem to think we all should. If our choices are die, or die with a gun in hand, I’ll just choose to fucking die.

Go ahead and give up, just don’t encourage others to simply lay down and die with you because you feel alone in your acceptance of your shitty fate in life.

Instead you should inspire others to fight back for you since you’re too lazy to do it your fucking self

Having the tools and knowledge to keep yourself safe does not make you radicalized. That’s like saying learning how to swim or getting a boat means you were radicalized by water. Or learning first aid makes you a radicalized combat medic.

Getting a gun is a much less radical plan than changing countries…
