While same-sex civil unions have been legal in the country since 2016, same-sex couples do not have the right to adopt, thanks in part to opposition from the Catholic Church. Surrogacy remains illegal in Italy and there are restrictions that prevent the adoption of “stepchildren” by one parent. Medically assisted reproduction, like in vitro fertilization (IVF), is only available to heterosexual couples.
I kind of assumed, mistakenly, that other countries that aren’t the US were a bit more progressive than the US.
But it seems like the issues that we’re plagued by exist everywhere?

The US is actually pretty progressive on the LGBTQ front compared to the rest of the world outside of Northern Europe, I’d even go as far as to say the coastal states are some of the best places for LGBTQ folks in terms of culture in the world.

but places like the west coast and northeast are very forward. Philadelphia for example has a whole gayborhood filled with gay bars and the most obnoxious LGBT people you’ve ever met

Conservatism is dying slowly, and instead of reconsidering their positions, right-wingers are doubling down and turning to fascism to keep their grip on power. We must stay vigilant and counter their bullshit and violence whenever possible. If we want a better world, we have to fight for it.
