Shooting at the ground is less about slowing down the bullet than keeping the shooter from aiming at specific people so the department can claim they didn’t target anyone in particular.

Shooting from hip level is horrible because they still have the ability to aim from the hip.

First of all, ACAB and I’m not defending a goddamn thing they are doing here.

But you can’t aim a weapon from the hip. You just can’t. You can shoot from the hip but if you’re trying to hit something in particular, good luck because it’s all luck. The Army has you do an exercise in infantry basic training to show you just how fucking impossible it is to hit a target even 20m away while shooting from the hip, with live rounds on a firing range. It’s a way to educate you that all the shit you’ve seen in movies is utter bs.

20m, yes it is pretty much impossible to hit a target while firing from the hip without extensive practice. Cops don’t have that amount of practice, but also rarely fire non-lwthal weapons from that far away.

At 5m the bullets will most likely be hitting a human sized target. Note the range they are firing from the shoulder in the video and assume the comment was about similar firing conditions. They can’t aim for the face, but they can still pick their targets.

Well I don’t want to argue and seem like I’m supporting these fascist fucks. We all know cops have no problem firing indiscriminately into a crowd of unarmed people. I just don’t like when people say “aim from the hip” cause that’s not really a thing outside of an Annie Oakley type deal.
