Last night I was dreaming about my dog, who really likes to dig, somehow digging a whole dang tunnel in our back yard. Like, mine shaft sized right in the side of the hill in our lawn. Then, I got a visit from my dog that passed away almost 2 years ago. He just came up to me, leaned on my leg, and I kneeled down and hugged him and told him how much I missed him. I was crying in the dream and in real life. I kinda knew I was sleeping and felt that he was visiting me from beyond.

Life’s been tough lately, my 10yo adopted daughter is violent and irrational and I feel like a slave to the rigid ways we attempt to live life to minimize her outbursts. We had to have her taken to the emergency dept for a night this week because she refused to use any of the skills she worked on in treatment to regain a calm and safe body, but also couldn’t be left without literally tearing holes in her walls. So either we were trapped in the room with her abuse, or waited as she literally tore a hole in the wall to bring the abuse to us elsewhere. So in short, things have been stressful.

It was a really nice feeling to have a visit from my old friend from beyond to tell me he loves and misses me, and is still here for me when things are hard. I’m not crazy, I know that it’s just a creation of my brain coping with and processing the information it takes in, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t comforting to see someone I miss so dearly.

Are we fucking cooked? Is this going to start a series of retaliatory strikes that brings about the use of nukes? This shit fucking sucks.

I use IDS (interactive digital signage) for my TV in my bedroom, but I have good reasons: I work for the manufacturer, my job involves using it and I work from home, it was free.

Picture quality isn’t incredible, but it’s not bad. SDR 4K LCD, so obviously lacking a bit compared to commercial TVs. But again, free and I needed it in my house for my job so I already had limited options for where to put it.

I would not recommend buying one. They expensive, image quality is substandard, and you can’t actually just buy one individually.

i started a new job (remote, with a chill af boss) that only offered 2 weeks of vacation after the NPO i worked for got bought by a for-profit and i forecasted that we’d be stripped of our 6 weeks PTO accrual (I was right). I stored up my first year’s PTO so i could use it in march for a week-long vacation we usually do for spring break. in january i learned that it’s apparently wiped clean on Jan 1. I now, weirdly, use 0 hours of PTO in a year, but I always take time off when i need it. probably adds up to more than the 2 weeks i’m supposed to have. but i got burned by the rules so i’ve decided i don’t need to play by them. so yeah, i’m not “just accepting it”

Yeah, they curate their service with people they specifically invite. At least for a while, no idea if it’s still this way, every channel owner on Nebula was a part-owner to the service and had a vote in major platform decisions.

I think this rules, personally. It makes me feel great about subscribing knowing that everyone there has a vested interest in the platform as a whole succeeding and producing worthwhile material. On the flip side, there are really good channels on YouTube that I wish were on Nebula, and I think would be a good fit, but there’s not really a process for suggesting them to the platform for invitation.

i often buy books on a DRM’d store or a paper copy, but then download the epub to put on my e-ink tablet so i don’t have to deal with the shitty DRM’d app it would be stuck in.

I’m travelling to Florida right now and I can’t view pornhub or any if it’s owned brands, which is a lot of adult content right now. It’s apparently like this in 17 states. That’s a self-imposed block, but it’s because those states have ID check laws that are so invasive that they’re rather not serve to those states.
