I don’t think that is correct, the Fairness Doctrine couldn’t apply to MSNBC because they are a cable TV station. The govt. can only regulate licensed spectrum, i.e. actual broadcasts which use the public airwaves. The FCC licenses that spectrum to broadcasters, that is what gave them the capacity to impose the Fairness Doctrine. They have no authority over non-broadcast media like cable TV or the internet.

It is true that “market forces” used to be somewhat tempered by cultural ideals around how news media was supposed to operate. Recent decades have seen an increasingly profit driven management as US media has transformed into a much more consolidated industry under the control of fewer and fewer corporations. The US media has always been “capitalist”, but it also has a history of at least giving pretense to serving the public good.

I made it most of the way through book two before I gave up. I don’t think the prose is necessarily awful, its just very YA dramatic in a way that can get grating. Or that was my experience, its not terrible and if I was 14 again I’m sure I would love it, but as a grown ass man, I’m too old for that shit.

In my experience, no. Portuguese, Spanish, and Italian people are all below “white people” and above most other “non-whites” in their racial hierarchy. I think white supremacists usually give them bonus points for being European so its not as virulent a hatred as with other groups, but it’s still there.

I’ve only owned it for about a year now, although I do use it at least once a day and often several times. I’m not sure if I would say it is worth the money, I don’t regret buying it and enjoy using it, but it’s also very expensive. Justifying the stupid price to myself wasn’t very hard since I use a kettle daily and money isn’t tight. You can get a kettle that functions identically but perhaps isn’t quite as nice in the hand and save yourself some cash if your priority is cost-efficiency.

I have a Stagg EKG Pro Studio. It heats up quickly, you can set it to whatever temp you want, it feels good in the hand and well balanced. I don’t really have any complaints about it so far. The only problem I’ve run into was a result of user error - if you fill it up all the way you have to be careful when pouring so water doesn’t come out of the vent in the lid. The only real drawback is the cost. It was stupid expensive.

There’s conflict over whether it was disclosed responsibly. On one side, using an LLM this way is basic shit that quite literally anyone can do now. No actual skill or special resources required. On the other side, not sharing vulnerabilities with the public until the dev has had some time to fix their shit is the gold standard of responsible disclosure. There’s also weird interpersonal drama involved but I don’t really know the background.

Someone used an LLM to do a basic vulnerabilities scan on the Piefed codebase and then posted about it.

Its mostly oil industry media covering it normally but whenever there’s significant activity you will see more traditional media sources reporting on it. Its generally just the business/investor types who care and pay attention to it so news media targeting them is usually where you find coverage beyond the oil industry specific sources. If you read The Economist for example, anything significant with the oil reserve will be in there.

The US still maintains oil reserves and has been releasing oil to try to slow down the rise in prices over the past few months. You can find news articles about this, its just kind of boring and doesn’t really have a huge impact so only really gets brought up when Republicans can use it to complain about Democratic policies. Since the oil price spike is a direct consequence of Republican policies the releases from the reserves isn’t a big topic for the media.

The DNC being shit at elections is exactly why that scenario seems like it would have been the best path and still within the bounds of reasonably possible given the constraints involved. It would have put Kamala in the optimal position and given her a year to pin inflation and everything else unpopular on Biden while also having incumbency, the entire political dynamic of the country would have been changed. She could have had a clean break and gone into the election with a coherent campaign built from the ground up. It’s not the best outcome obviously, we still end up with Kamala vs. Trump but the odds would likely be much more against Trump. My only point is that in this counterfactual Trump is at his biggest disadvantage within a realistic scenario. If you think otherwise explain. And if you think any of this is somehow a defense of the DNC, read again more carefully.
