I read The Bone Harp last year, and it left a big impression. A bit daunted by how massive The Hands Of The Emperor is but Bone Harp was so good I’ll definitely get to it eventually.

2·9 months agoDepends really. I can’t commit to something that’ll impact what little community we have over there without running it by the members first. I’m not clued in on this place and I’m not experienced with migrating. Would ml users still have access?
Temeraire is one I need to go back to at some point. I got about 3/4s through the first book but never finished, can’t even remember why anymore.
I didn’t think I was much of a fan but then I checked the page to find apparently Morrowind and Pan’s Labyrinth (still need to get round to Disco Elysium) count for New Weird? Two of my favourite things.
As for books, I got halfway through City of Saints and Madmen a few years back and I was enjoying it but the pace of the painter story really made me lose interest. Still planning to go back and finish it someday.
I loved the first two so much it pushed me all the way through the whole series but I look back now and wish I’d stopped at the short collections. Think I just needed to get to the ending, which I did enjoy tbf. Glad you’re enjoying!
Read the first DCC recently! Absolutely breezed through it, such a fun book. Definitely doing the next one soon.
I started strong but I’ve been a bit slow recently. Read the first Wandering Inn book and it took a while. Dunno if I’ll keep going with that series, wasn’t quite my thing, but I did enjoy parts of it.
My favourite book released this year up to now would be The Tomb of Dragons by Katherine Addison, and my favourite that wasn’t released this year is probably Assassin’s Apprentice by Robin Hobb or The Tombs of Atuan by Ursula K Le Guin.

Looks like Sparnies is the shop name (it’s based in a place called Leamington Spa). No sign of chips sadly.
Sarnie is indeed slang for a butty
Sounds great, and now I know what sausage gravy is I will be trying it myself, thanks!

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•When was the last time you felt that you were well represented by a politician - be it at local or national level? What was the occasion?English
4·11 months agoJeremy Corbyn, 2019 UK election. He lost due to several factors but especially sabotage from within his own party and a corrupt media. Apparently it’s all well documented in this 3 part series though I’ve never had the heart to watch it.

I read the first one many years ago but still look back on it fondly, I read the second earlier this year and thought it was excellent. I’m planning to read the third sometime soon. Definitely worth checking out if you’re wanting a classic example of the genre, but again very different to an Abercrombie book.
If you’re wanting more things like First Law you’ll want to look into the grimdark side of the genre, or just keep going with Joe since he has 2 more series in the same world that follow up the first trilogy.
Hobbit is a classic but it’s about as far from a Joe Abercrombie book as you can get. How’re you finding Last Argument of Kings?

Yeah I dunno, maybe due to how trippy the plot can get, but even then it’s a stretch.
