Unless you used a very specific combination of browser extensions, I can’t get my head around how it could track you… Or do they maybe use external services like Google Analytics to identify users? But even that would require that you logged in somewhere else before with that same browser.

Does someone have experience with a de-googled Android phone (graphene, /e/, …) for professional use in IT? I need a ton of authenticator apps (Microsoft Authenticator, Oracle Authenticator,…), various VPN apps and privacy-invading ‘security’ apps. Does such stuff typically work without play services and with a custom rom?

In the past I used a custom rom on my private phone and already there it was a bit of hassle to get the banking app running. I’d assume it to be worse with these professional spyware apps. Am I right?

PS: As a last resort - if she can’t get find someone to pick the stuff up - most places in Germany offer a service called “Sperrmüll”, a kind of garbage collection specialized on furniture which doesn’t cost much (~5€ per m³).

As far as I know it’s a license thing. For wireless they have to pay a fee to Google (I think I read something like 500 USD but no guarantee for the number). You can get an wired2wireless adapter for less than 50 bucks, so I personally don’t see it as an issue.

I got an Ioniq 6 and am pretty satisfied with the car. I’m fine with wired Android Auto but there are also pretty cheap adapters to convert it into wireless.

Half a year ago I posted a 15 year old Flat Screen TV, a 2.1 sound system, a smoke detector set and a couch table from Ikea for free. I had more than 100 messages in two hours and everything was picked up on the same day. I guess it really depends on what you want to get rid of and at what price. If you give away good stuff for cheap or free, there’ll be a ton of attention. Old fashioned furniture however might be rather hard to get rid of.

Ich finde die Europa-Bewegung gut, fände es aber teilweise auch am Ziel vorbeigeschossen, wenn man zum Beispiel verstärkt Nestlé-Produkte kaufen würde, um einen US-Hersteller zu vermeiden.

Can someone explain why we need satelites to estimate the CO2 emmissions of a power plant burning coal? Shouldn’t it be a pretty trivial and accurate calculation to get that number either from the weight of the coal that you burn or by the megawatt hours you generate?

Bei mir waren es bis jetzt immer MP3s. Spricht da was dagegen? Bei einem Hörbuch würde ich mir jetzt bei FLAC o.ä. keinen signifikanten Mehrwert versprechen und MP3 dürfte hinsichtlich Kompatibilität mit Apps und Abspielgeräten so ziemlich das universellste sein, oder?

Ja, so ganz erschließt sich mir auch nicht, wieso man - wenn man dieses Abo kennt - noch Hörbücher zum Vollpreis kaufen sollte. Und es lohnt sich wie gesagt auch schon bei weniger als 12, da du ja z.B. nach drei Monaten wieder kündigen kannst. Man kann übrigens auch, wenn man mal mehr Hörbücher braucht als eines pro Monat noch beliebig viele weitere für 7,95€ dazukaufen, wenn man im Abo ist.

Andererseits: Bevor ich das Thalia-Abo entdeckt habt, habe ich mir meine Hörbücher gebraucht bei Kleinanzeigen / Medimops auf CD gekauft. Jetzt macht Thalia circa 90€ Umsatz im Jahr mit mir. Je nachdem, was sie die Lizenzen kosten, vielleicht schon lukrativ.

In Germany you can have a look at the Thalia Hörbuch-Abo. First month free, afterwards 7,95€ per month. You can download one audiobook per month as MP3s. It’s completely DRM free, you do not need to install any additional apps and you can cancel monthly. If you don’t download anything in a period, you collect credits which you can redeem later, also after you cancelled. For the 7,95€ fee you can download audiobooks that are usually way more expensive. I had one that’s regularly priced at 40€.
