  • If I’m super tired but not willing to sleep yet for reasons (lack of free time other than the evening, being the main one), I usually put the tv on and play games on my phone. Not a great use of time but as we’ve established, tired.

If I’m tired but not that tired, I put the tv on and I knit. It’s my main hobby and I’m good at it, to the point that it usually doesn’t require much thought. My secondary hobby is sewing which is much newer for me and I can’t do that tired; I make too many mistakes.

It sounds like I watch a lot of tv, but in reality the period of 9-10:30pm is the only chance I get and not every night. So it’s not that much in the long run.

  • I have a Bernina so I can’t speak personally to Singer quality these days. But here are my other thoughts.

I ended up buying a new machine to replace an old Kenmore because even though I had the manual, there was 0 information about the machine online, no help, no videos, nothing. When I ran into a problem getting the zipper foot to work, I had nowhere to turn. The snarky man at the repair shop asked me why I was bothering. (F him, I go to a different shop now.)

Regarding speed, mine has a speed setting. Have you found a speed setting for yours? There probably is one somewhere…

I’m now in my forties and I gotta say, my automatic needle threader is a godsend. I have to manually thread my serger needles and it takes me many minutes to pull off even with my reading glasses on, sigh.

PS your bench cushion looks awesome!

  • My hair is I guess what you would call barely wavy. If I let it air dry, the top is quite flat and the bottom curls under a bit. With coaxing, I can get the waves and curls to show up but it definitely takes some effort. I’ve always been envious of curly hair so I’m excited that mine isn’t as flat as I always thought but I wish it was a bit curlier. Oh well; grass is always greener.

    My normal routine:

    • (Occasionally use Suave clarifying shampoo 1st)
    • Not your mother’s curl talk bond builder shampoo
    • Conditioner version of the same, during which I comb out any tangles
    • AG1 curl enhancer spray, I forget the real name
    • AG1 gel mousse on my roots up top
    • AG1 gel serum(?) on the rest of my hair
    • style with the BounceCurl brush, hair still sopping wet
    • scrunch, plop sometimes
    • diffuse

Lately I think I need a firmer gel. My hair is growing out and the weight makes everything limp. But I’m starting to think that shorter layers don’t give my wide wave room to develop. So we’re always trying new things over here.

I usually don’t bother refreshing; it comes out stringy. So I just brush it out a bit and most of the wave disappears.

I might be wrong and I’m happy to be corrected here. Isn’t it possible to stop getting your period because of high stress on your body? I would guess living through a post-apocalyptic situation might merit that level of stress. But I could be wrong; I have a pretty cushy life all things considered so it’s not like I have direct experience with this kind of thing.
