It’s a very fun game with tight gameplay (on mouse keyboard at least) the history is meh and it could use some more variety in weapons/loadout choice but it still a very solid mecha game.

I mean sure, but played my fair share off arcades back in the day and some would eat your quarters faster than others and games too difficult like this one didn’t attract much attention even if they were flashy one because we kids were broke AF.
For AAA games. Make a barely serviceable game with the least possible effort so that it can serve as a wrapper for micro transactions.

It was the most ridiculous and infuriatingly hard game back then, by a margin. It almost made Ghosts and Ghouls look easy in comparison.
Have you checked Gunfire Reborn? I think it’s very similar to what you want albeit with roguelike elements.
I didn’t liked it when I played on PS4 and I quit a couple hours in, but a couple of years later I played it on PC and loved it, put around 70 hours in it. It’s a pity that we don’t get to see a sequel and I understand why, but it is still a very fun game.
