People don’t steal for no reason. It is usually desperation, a last resort. If we remove the pressure causing people to feel that stealing is their only option, people won’t steal. I fundamentally believe in providing people their basic needs (food, clothing, shelter) because it makes these problems irrelevant.

While i wholeheartedly agree on supporting people both economically and with basic needs, i call bullshit on this one

try to explain that food, clothing and help is available to the guy high on weed, meth and/or heroin stealing your money to get another hit

Feel free to be scared of whatever you want, the chance someone breaks into your house is still there, no matter how low (not that low, especially in some neighborhoods), and i’m not about to treat intruders gently. They chose to steal, they chose to steal from houses, and they chose my house. I had no choice in this, nor should i face the consequences of someone’s else actions which i could not control in any way

if there’s no readily available food i can go a full day without feeling anything, and i only eat again only because of munchiness, not because of hunger. There’s the occasional stomach rumble after 12hrs of not eating but nothing significant enough to tell the brain “you should try to not die”

Anyways, going by

, i have had multiple people (2, which is not a lot but it’s weird it happened more then once) say that they couldnt solder just to discover that they were using their soldering iron wrong.

When you press the solder against the iron’s tip, it should get wicked by the tip, and remain there until you press it on some wire/component leads.

If the solder beads up and slips away from the iron, or beads up and forms a blob at the end of the solder wire, it’s oxidised and you probably need to get a new tip. It needs to be shiny and metallic.

The tip needs to be regularely cleaned while soldering by brushing it on a wet sponge, and never let the iron cool down without some solder on the tip to prevent oxidation.
