This is undoubtedly the most ugly program in the distribution. It was one of the first “serious” programs ported, and still has a lot of historical baggage. Ideally, there would be a general tty widget and then vt102 and tek4014 subwidgets so that they could be used in other programs. We are trying to clean things up as we go, but there is still a lot of work to do.

Ah, well I’m not too sure. The typewriter itself came from a charity shop, and my grandma bought me the ribbon. I have only owned it for a few days, so I haven’t bought anything myself.

There’ll be plenty of places online, though, and of course you do have !typewriters@lemmy.cafe at your disposal.

It possibly does work under Wine, but I didn’t want to risk soft-bricking my tablet (which happened anyway, but that was because I didn’t let the download finish before flashing).

I used to use MicroG, which was quite easy, but I don’t actually have any Play Services implementation installed nowadays. I use my phone for GPS and things that would require it, so I just keep my tablet clean.

I’m getting on very well with the Samsung Galaxy Tab A7, on which I run LineageOS; although a later model or something from the S-series may be more performant. I wrote this blog post about it.

I love LineageOS, but on this machine the bootloader cannot be re-locked and there will probably be someone about to reply to this comment explaining why LineageOS is insecure or whatever. Also, Samsung devices require that you have a Windows PC in order to flash ROMs, as you have to use Odin instead of fastboot.

Also, it’s worth noting that, while /e/ is slightly superior from a privacy perspective, it is potentially less secure, as it sometimes takes months for the team to apply patches from upstream. Lineage, meanwhile, only takes a few days or weeks.

Surprisingly, just one. I did make a couple of mistakes, though. (e.g. typing an 8 instead of a ’ on the bottom-left corner of the arch, and adding the dashes after 9.9.9.9 in the ping output instead of later on).

It was either red or black, and Arch definitely doesn’t use red in its branding.

Well, it’s a very stripped down installation. No bootloader or init system, no display drivers, busybox replaces a load of stuff, ed(1) is the only editor available, and a few things were compiled from source.

When you’ve got 0B of storage and 0B of RAM, you’ve got to work with what you have.

Just like vegans, I’m fairly certain it’s a loud minority that ruin it for the rest of us.
