THE POLICE PROBLEM@lemmy.world•ICE impersonators on the rise: Arrests made as authorities issue national warningEnglish
261·7 months agoYou know what I bet would help? If actual ICE agents showed their faces and IDs and had warrants instead of just jumping out of a rental F150 in masks and tactical paintball gear and grabbing people’s babies and punching old people. Just a thought.

Technology@lemmy.world•Palantir may be engaging in a coordinated disinformation campaign by astroturfing these news-related subreddits: r/world, r/newsletter, r/investinq, and r/tech_newsEnglish
91·8 months agoIt’s really, really obvious, too. I don’t have a reddit account anymore, but I occasionally scroll through popular, and r/world is such blatant propaganda that it makes r/conservative look reasonable. Like, damn guys, at least try to make it believable.
No, I believe it. Izzy is a perfect match for Brennan for a reason.
I didn’t do that because I wanted to. I just struggle to do anything important without a looming deadline. It sucks. I wrote a 25 page paper in a single night once and it was miserable (the experience, not the paper - the paper got an A).
I’m trying to prep for a move right now and it’s like I’m paralyzed. I know I should do the thing but I can’t seem to make my body do it, so I just sit and hate myself.

politics @lemmy.world•Food For Millions Rots in Storage After Trump’s USAID Cuts
20·8 months agoIt has to be. If it was really about saving money, they’d distribute what was already purchased and cut off future funding (well, if it was really about saving money, they’d look at the defense budget first), not let things we already paid for rot. This administration is made up of people who genuinely get off on the cruelty, like Kristi Noem and Steven Miller, and people who see it as a side effect that they don’t really care about.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•The joy of going through pregnancy along with your sister

61·9 months agoI hate skirts and dresses though. But I do try my best not to wear hard pants anymore. Pjs and leggings only.
It feels like if Shel Silverstein went just a biiit further.

World News@lemmy.world•Japan's historic work ethic is declining—45% of workers admit they're quiet quittingEnglish
8·9 months agoI’ve been reading more about the job market in Spain lately and it sounds like they have a similar problem. Not nearly to the extent that Japan does, but similar attitudes about being at work for unnecessarily long hours even if there’s no real point. There doesn’t appear to be any reward, either. I don’t blame people for declining to participate.

Technology@lemmy.world•Rebecca Shaw: I knew one day I’d have to watch powerful men burn the world down. But I didn't expect them to be such losers. English
83·9 months agoYeah like, they have negative charisma, so it’s extra baffling. I cannot imagine a world in which I’d support Donald Trump, but definitely not in this one where he routinely shits his own diaper. If he was only disgusting mentally but was a good speaker or handsome or whatever, it would make at least a little more sense

News@lemmy.world•Target foot traffic down for 11th straight week after caving on DEI
461·9 months agoI would’ve thought that if his tone wasn’t angry, but dude sounded pissed, and it was a very abrupt change when I said why. I’m sure I’m not the first or only person to cancel for that reason but I didn’t get “secretly agrees” vibes.

News@lemmy.world•Target foot traffic down for 11th straight week after caving on DEI
1102·9 months agoI called to cancel my red card and the guy asked why so I said it was due to their new DEI policies, or lack thereof, and he said, “WELL, wish there was something we could do to keep you but there’s not so the account will be closed. Thanks for calling!” And then basically hung up on me. It definitely made me feel like the adult in the relationship.

News@lemmy.world•Fears grow that Signal leaks make Pete Hegseth top espionage target
16·9 months agoYeah but how many times could spies bribe the person in that role with a 6 pack? You could let him pick what he wants from the gas station beer case and he’d probably give you all his passwords.
Christ, that drives me crazy. It makes me want to stop and say, “well now I’m not doing it at all,” because in my heart, I’m a child.
Me, but with laundry piles. And then I complain that I don’t know where any of my clothes are. Yeah, because they’re in about 10 different piles and baskets in 3 different rooms.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What are some places in Europe with a low price level and worth traveling to?
8·9 months agoI think most of Europe has places that can accommodate that, especially if you travel outside of big cities. I’d put more of my budget into a place to stay and slightly less into food, but that’s my personal preference, and I’ve found tons of meals out for a lot less than that. I don’t think we spent more than maybe 40 euros for a meal for two anywhere in Spain, including wine/beer, and many were more like 25. Even Berlin and Munich were pretty reasonable and we made up the difference by going to Aldi for some of our breakfast/dinner food.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What are some places in Europe with a low price level and worth traveling to?
11·9 months agoWhat would you consider a low price level? My mom and I have been to a lot of places that aren’t traditionally known as cheap, but we usually stay in places with a kitchen (aparthotels, mainly, we avoid airbnb) and grocery shop so we spend far less on food than a lot of people would. We also travel outside of peak season, primarily to avoid the crowds but it’s also less expensive.

I know that if farmers love one thing, it’s deliberately losing a ton of money. I’m sure they’ll be thrilled with this idea.
