  • There is something inherently anti-social about a car. Almost any method you have to communicate with those around you will be seen as aggressive.

If someone is sitting at a light too long, you honk at them. There aren’t a lot of other good options. But even a honk sounds aggressive. You could be as polite a person as can be in any other situation, but making the completely reasonable choice to honk at them makes it sound like you’re calling their mom fat.

It only gets worse from there.

  • No, it will not. If it works at first, it won’t for long.

My online community SDF was founded in 1987, four years before Tim Berners Lee invented the web. They are so old that their FAQ still refers to email as “Arpanet email”. Guess what? Emails from SDF don’t reach Big Tech servers. I’m positive that the beards of their admins are grayer than mine and they will have tried to tweak every nook and cranny available.

    What are we left with?

You cannot set up a home email server.

You cannot set it up on a VPS.

You cannot set it up on your own datacenter.

  • Interestingly, this is one way people would be chosen for promotion in a worker co-op. The Catholic Church has been syndicalist this whole time.

Edit: let me clarify that. The Papal Conclave gets all the cardinals together to decide on the next Pope. Usually, they choose someone from the cardinals (though not always). So typically, all the candidates for promotion are right there in the room and part of the decision making process.

  • Upvote to the moon. Lots of leftists seem to intellectually understand that money is a fiction that’s sometimes useful, but are bad at putting that into practice.

I’ll stick my neck out on something here: this includes donating to individual people in Gaza, even if they’re coming to you from a verified source on Blue Sky. Yes, a kilo of flour might cost $600. Giving someone $600 to buy flour might feed that family, but there’s some other family who isn’t getting that flour. You’re just choosing who starves today. The fundamental issue is that there isn’t enough flour or any other food. There is no way to solve that by donating to individuals. It can only be solved by telling the government of Israel to go fuck itself.
