Look, with Taiwan, there are a lot of hypotheticals about invasion, but that isn’t even necessary to prove that China are total dicks over Taiwan, and would like nothing better than to steal the island. Just look at how China treats Taiwan in international relations, and how China forces others to do the same. Taiwan can’t even compete in the olympics as Taiwan. They have to call themselves Chinese Taipei, or else China will throw a hissy fit and refuse to compete in the same olympics. In China’s ideal universe, they steal Taiwan. You are not going to weasel out of this one.

0. providing starting material for the more efficient U-238 -> Pu reactors, which burn 100% of the uranium instead of less than 1%, or thorium reactors. Both of these require much more pure fuel, just to get going.
