Some employers do PTO others do separate vacation and sick. Generally I just count the combined days off – vacation, sick, and holidays when making a decision on an offer.

I had one job where they switched to the unlimited PTO scam.

Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•You go outside. You see this. What would you do?English
8·10 hours agoOn the sidewalk obviously.
It depends on a lot of factors. For software development I’ve had anywhere from 4 to 6 weeks per year. One job was 4 weeks of PTO (includes sick time) and they only had 6 holiday days per year. That job sucked.
Since they said PTO, ili would expect that sick and vacation come out of the same pool.
I too write in the notes “this is a notification, not a request”. It obviously depends on the type of job you have but I’ve never gotten flak for it.

13·5 days agoGoogle maps does that as well. I was at Grand Teton and heading to my next camp site. 56 miles, 2.5 hours. That seems a bit low on speed. Checked closer, and yep it wanted me to take my van on a pretty rough logging road. I rerouted through Jackson WY.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•What is your weirdest self-hosting problem you've had to solve? For me: Mouse inside the server.English
2·18 days agoWay back in the olden days, we had a hard drive with out any backups go bad. I determined that it was the circuit board. So I took a working drive and basically connected the bad driver’s platters to the working drive’s circuit board.
It worked and I was able to back up the data and restore it on a new drive.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•What is your weirdest self-hosting problem you've had to solve? For me: Mouse inside the server.English
3·18 days agoNot on a computer but I had a JVC TV that started blanking a few times a minute whenever my dvd player was connected. Whilst trying to fix this I attempted to update the TV firmware. That didn’t fix a thing but I noticed that the blanking went away when the USB drive with the firmware update was plugged in. So I just plugged a cheapo USB drive in and left it there for as long as I owned that TV and dvd player.

By holiday do you mean strictly vacation or does that include holiday days like Christmas and new years?
