Thanks, I’ll see if I can pass on those suggestions once I track down whoever is currently in charge of the project. It looks like it may have been handed over to a new team recently
I waddled onto the beach and stole found a computer to use.

Note: I’m moderating a handful of communities in more of a caretaker role. If you want to take one on, send me a message and I’ll share more info :)

I really can’t tell if this is serious or sarcasm because of the original comment, but I’ll reply with the assumption that it’s serious:
The reason I followed up is because (as the other comment said), it seemed like news about an american show, discussing american political issues. While those issues are directly affecting life here in Canada, this community often gets complaints about having too much american news and content. We can already see and follow along with the same news in other communities, and some users come to this space to get away from all that.
Sometimes I can dismiss a report outright if I can see the relevance, and other times I might leave a comment asking about it, such as this post. The author replied with the justification and the post was left up.
Yes, I’m Canadian, and you’ll find that my post history reflects that
I’ll unpin my comment and dismiss the report :)
That makes sense to me. Maybe we can encourage people to post them as text posts, with the link in the body and a title that makes it seem more like a discussion starting post?
At the same time, it’s not too difficult to check on the posts on a case by case basis at our current size, and by the time that’s no longer possible we would have the momentum to support other communities. So it’s not a big deal
Thanks! !askmen@lemmy.ca and !askwomen@lemmy.ca have been closed and redirected
Thanks! I ended up including this sentence:
If you can’t access one of the communities listed below, it may not be available on your instance. You can always check out this guide on how to find communities.
I’m removing this post since it isn’t really relevant for this community. In the future, you can ask about communities in !communitypromo@lemmy.ca, !lemmy411@lemmy.ca, !newcommunities@lemmy.world, etc
Were there any updates on this? Did anyone end up forking it?
That is totally fair :)
You also mentioned that certain features aren’t available on old.lemmy.ca
. What features were those? I’ll see if I can find anything about it
It would be up to Lemmy developers to implement flairs, and then the Mlmym developers to make them visible on the interface that is displayed when you go to old.lemmy.ca
. If we (Fedecan) were to try and implement something just for ourselves, it wouldn’t be that helpful since only our users would be able to see and set the flairs.
It looks like post flairs are on the way though! I see this merge from last week for “finish adding post tags”
https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy/pull/5869
Referenced in this issue
https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy/issues/317
User flairs will likely come later, but it’s planned from what I can tell. The issue was kept open:
https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy/issues/1456
Having the flairs be displayed in the old
interface may take some time, since that project seems to see slower development. If someone has experience in the ‘Go’ programming language, they can help implement it to speed things up
I think it’s related to this
https://www.androidauthority.com/google-not-killing-aosp-3566882/
- Google has made it harder to build custom Android ROMs for Pixel phones by omitting their device trees and driver binaries from the latest AOSP release.
- The company says this is because it’s shifting its AOSP reference target from Pixel hardware to a virtual device called “Cuttlefish” to be more neutral.
- While Google insists AOSP isn’t going away, developers must now reverse-engineer changes, making the process for supporting Pixel devices more difficult.
GrapheneOS says it won’t be a big deal:
Fairphone also recently released Fairphone 6, and so people are talking about having to pick between privacy (GrapheneOS) and ethical manufacturing (Fairphone)
I’ll add it to the list, I’m not sure if I should also add a note about federation or if that will just be more confusing for new users
Thanks! I’ve added it to the draft
Thanks, I’ve added them all
If you want an example of a call for mods, here’s one I posted from a while back: https://lemmy.ca/post/31769390
I love the photos you chose for each community. Looking forward to seeing them grow!
Did something from my comment give that impression? I haven’t removed the post yet if that’s the concern.
Someone reported this post as being unrelated to the topic of this community (Canada), and I’m following up on it by asking the poster to add context for why they posted it here. Most likely the post will stay up since it has a lot of discussion already.
Hi, we’re discussing this one with the other admins and someone will get back to you soon. I’ve reapproved the comments in the meantime.
This is being reported as being unrelated, and I also think this is better for a different community. Could you add some context for how it is related to Canada? I haven’t seen the episode myself. Else it might be better for places like !television@piefed.social or !casualconversation@piefed.social.
If you were looking to discuss with other Canadians specifically, maybe we could use casual discussion community for that purpose?
(copying my comment from another post)
I had to look this one up, I didn’t realize how old the technology was
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flettner_rotor
A Flettner rotor is a smooth cylinder with disc end plates which is spun along its long axis and, as air passes at right angles across it, the Magnus effect causes an aerodynamic force to be generated in the direction perpendicular to both the long axis and the direction of airflow.[1] The rotor sail is named after the German aviation engineer and inventor Anton Flettner, who started developing the rotor sail in the 1920s.

Where do all the doors lead?
One entrance, one closet, what about the third one?
Hi patatas,
We had a chance to discuss this post and what we can do differently in the future. You raised some good points in your communication with us, and I’ve copied it in to our notes for future guidelines / recommended community rules. Thank you for reaching out, we’re keeping the comments approved.
