Small scale permaculture nursery in Maine, education enthusiast, and usually verbose.

Planting perennials & daydreaming about next year’s veggie layout and rotation. Hearing “aren’t your feet cold?” because I wear sandals until there’s snow on the ground
That’s actually the handle for holding it while you eat. Far fewer stringy bits get in the way if you pinch the bottom of it and split the peel from that end

Ceanothus americanus produces the same compounds as C. sinensis, just without the caffeine. You can even make green or black teas with it depending on whether you oxidize the leaves or not.

🥰 it’s just the two of us today so we’re playing in the dirt pulling strawberry runners for markets this weekend

“Campbell’s admission that it committed these violations will speed this case toward a trial that will decide what steps the company must take to curb its pollution and how large a civil penalty should be imposed,”
1.5 times their gross annual profit average over the timeframe, per infraction, ought to do it. Oh. And jail time for anyone who knew and didn’t report it, for aiding and abetting a conspiracy to commit the crime.

I’d love it if something like this existed around me, but I’d settle for never being asked “oh did mom get a day off” ever again (for context, I’m a stay-at-home dad and primary caregiver). I get why the stereotype exists but it’s less than helpful to shame the dads who are out doing things with their kids.
There are several groups around that are specifically for moms, dads excluded, and I just wish there were more avenues for me to help my daughter socialize in age appropriate groups
But that’s how I remember to Rest, Ice, Compress, and Elevate injuries
Are these perennial flowers we’re talking about? Leave the stems attached until the birds in your area have eaten the seeds so they fare better over the winter. Seed heads will also catch snow and ice to create “winter interest” as it’s called in landscaping circles, giving your garden something pretty to look at even in the depths of winter. Those upright stems will also provide critical habitat for insects - they can provide that habitat if they’re cut and left whole on the ground but will become inaccessible if you get an early snow that lingers.
Mushi-shi. Incredibly beautiful art and wonderfully written stories about a guy who travels the countryside, using research and nonviolent methods to resolve issues between humans and the spirit creatures known as Mushi

We helped build the seed library at our town’s library and volunteer at the community garden there as well. This has put us in touch with other growers in the area and we’ve been talking up mutual aid networks and sharing (and receiving) food in that group and with our neighbors. We barter plants with a nearby guy who grows culinary mushrooms, eggs with the neighbors who hunt, and take hikes with the neighbor who’s been foraging wild mushies for decades
You can use the image address and link to it by putting in the post itself, or add additional images in the comments. For example:

Will give you this picture of me holding a goat

What color is the pith (center of the stem)? Porcelain berry is white and grape should be brown in older stems
Poaceae is essential to the survival of a vast number of bird, insect, and mammal species, people are just using it incorrectly
Who knew halos were that sharp!?
Fun fact: in the northeast US and eastern Canada, you can support their entire life cycle by planting tomatoes and Monarda spp together!

The last episode of Sliders had the main character and troupe finally make it back to their original dimension after 5 seasons - Quinn runs up to the gate at his mother’s house exclaiming that he knows this gate and it’s been squeaky forever, only to open it with no squeak. Demoralized, they all walk back into the dimensional gateway and leave. As the gateway closes, Quinn’s mother runs outside - calling to him that she finally got the gate fixed but nobody’s there anymore.
How is Sliders not the top of this list, let alone even on it? I haven’t seen the show since it went off air 25 years ago and that last scene and fade to black still haunts me to this day.
I’ve given two of these after having been asked to do so during the reception (twice!). So here’s some advice from an ad-libber, no bromance required:
Tell a story about you and your friend. Maybe it’s how you met, or an event that showed you that they were the kind of person you’d do this sort of thing for - either way, say something about this characteristic of your friend will help support their relationship with their partner. Try to fit in a joke about an annoying aspect of this positive trait that friends or family might have made in the past.
If you know the spouse well enough, tell a short story about them and why they’re a good partner for your friend. Drop a joke about how they’ll (finally) be the sensible one who will reign in the annoying aspect you joked about earlier.
Say something about how great they are as a team, and express a hope you have for the two of them as they start this new aspect of their lives. Tie it back to how they deserve great things because of the things you said earlier. If you wouldn’t be the person standing there giving that speech without your friend, say so - regardless of whether you decide to speak about being trans during this speech or not.
Remember that laughter is what happens when expectations are subverted in a surprising way, that everyone loves a good callback, and that groupings of three are more impactful, and you’ll do great.
