Also there’s no real chance of winning for them.

They certainly won’t get back Crimea and chances are low to get some if any of the occupied territory back since the West has no interest in ending the war quickly and Ukraine alone is not strong enough.

If your winning condition is realistically to hold out until something extremely unlikely happens in your favour morale will deteriorate quickly.
