  • For me there really isn’t anything better in anime then moments like the one you describe in K-ON! I have that same picture up as the banner on !kon@lemmy.world. I think older anime do these tender moments better than the newer ones. For example Bocchi the Rock is quite forgettable to me, especially compared to K-ON! (I watched them back to back).

If you are interested in this type of stuff, you might want to check out the genre “iyashikei” (free translation: “healing genre”). The border with iyashikei, slice of life and cgdct is often blurred, I argue that K-ON! is indeed at least partially an iyashikei anime. It’s a bit of spectrum, most SOL will include some iyashikei but some have a much stronger emphasis on it. Other titles that may be of interest are Non Non Biyori, Hidamari Sketch and ARIA.

  • If you mean the painting program window around it I would call it breaking the fourth wall. If you mean the drawing style in which the characters are drawn, I don’t know a single term for it but I guess we could describe some aspects of it. There is no line art so maybe “lineless”. There are not many values in terms of lighting so maybe “flat”. How the areas of colour are laid down reminds of painting, sometimes people call digital art that is done like a painting or looks like a painting “painterly”.

  • I don’t want to be disrespectful and say that it is AI or that they traced over an AI image, but after looking there are some things that don’t make sense. Maybe they are still learning when it comes to background and perspective.

    • the sun can be that low but usually there are things in front of it when it is that low
    • the perspective of the cake doesn’t work out, the side of the top glace morphs into the top of the top glace almost like an Escher drawing
    • the wood panel on the right wall doesn’t meet the panel on the back wall behind her (you can trace it with a ruler, either the panel of the back wall or the side wall should be visible under her cheek)
    • I don’t think the window frame in relation to the wood panel on the wall makes sense (the distance between them should reduce as the distance to the camera increases)
    • the light on the ceiling is a bit weird, like it’s not flat on the ceiling but at an angle

I really like the dress she was in haha. I should have looked a bit harder at the background.

  • In principle a skirt suit is just a suit for women that has a skirt instead of trousers. They may be cut in a variety of ways like closely following the body to accentuate shape or have more of a drape cut. Of course, in anime they usually like to draw the girls in a certain attractive way.

A variety of lapels exist, I just never saw one where the lapel is missing. I quickly searched skirt suit on images and saw an example of it. I guess as always women have much more choice in designs when it comes to clothes compared to men, and I was only aware of details in the male side of suiting.

I indeed like a dress on Kou-chan, I really liked when Rin put her in a dress. Temporarily putting tomboys in dresses is a bit of anime guilty pleasure of mine, I have to admit.
