According to WHO, over 5% of the world's population suffers from disabling hearing loss. That is over 360 million people whose lives are affected and these people suffer from a communication breakdown. This breakdown can have a large impact on the persons life, from education to social and emotion development. The Onero glove is a low cost device that can be used to translate sign language and help to bridge the communication gap between the hearing and Deaf communities. The Hackaday Prize tag line is "Build something that matters" and this project matters to me greatly and I believe that it could be a great help to many people! The project will involve developing a minimilistic glove that uses IMU's to measure finger and hand movements, bluetooth for wireless communication and feedback for correct gestures. Hand tracking and gesture recognition also has applications in VR, health and home automation!
