Lately I’ve been quite busy and haven’t been able to dedicate as much time as I would like to PokeYiff, but in my absence @fsLeg@lemmy.t-rg.ws doubled the amount of community content in a matter of weeks or rather days! And I admit that’s quite a lot of work because the community is almost 3 months old.
So in my condition of moderator of Pokeyiff, I give you the wholesome award (poor edition).

Thanks! Although I’ve been really slacking this week, and not due to absence of nice artworks in my backlog. The process of posting turned out to be more involved than I thought at first. I mean, it goes like this:
- Check for dupes. And since Lemmy is a link aggregator and not an image gallery with a sofisticated tagging system, it becomes increasingly difficult as more links are getting posted.
- Check DNP list on e621 and artist’s own terms if those are published. It doesn’t help that e621 is blocked in my country, so I have to use VPN each time.
- Figure out the artist’s preferred name. It’s a doozy sometimes, especially if they have multiple accounts on different platforms with different names, so you have to check most of them, if not all. And this one is the most important, as this is the only way to find the artist’s works here. Good luck finding dupes for an artist whose name is specified differently in different posts.
- Download and reupload the artwork. Yes, you can use direct links, but hotlinking is not cool as it creates additional strain on the target server without contributing anything. At first I thought Lemmy made Pict-rs download an image using the provided link, but that’s not the case. Well, maybe for previews it is, but not for full images.
- Fill in “tags” and attribution. Not difficult, but you must double check to make sure you didn’t accidentally specified a commissioner’s name instead of the artist’s, and if the source is from a commissioner’s profile, you gotta find a proper link to the artist’s profile or gallery.
So, yeah, a lot of effort for just one post. Would be much more comfortable using a PC, but I don’t use it often, and then there’s a door to my uncle’s room right behind my back, so I’d rather not have porn on my monitor when he could exit his room at any moment (I don’t have the best living conditions). That leaves the phone, and if you tried multitasking on your phone, you know how cumbersome it is, and I don’t want to post just one image at a time, it’s more convenient to me to post everything that comes up on a current page of my faves list.
I do plan to keep posting, it just might take a couple more days before I get to it.
I am surprised to know that you do all that without a computer, I mean, each step takes a lot of time and at least on my phone (which is already a little old, but as long as it works I do not see why change it) I have done some tasks with multitasking (nothing especially complex, just read some documents and transcribe some important information to a word document) and I can confirm that the experience is pretty bad, and especially that due to RAM issues the background tabs are constantly restarted and makes me lose a lot of time reopening it.
And regarding point 3 I can add that it is one of the things I hate the most, sometimes I have had to edit old posts because I realize that who I attributed the work to was actually an animator, and there are many users that in e621 add the name of the artist but not a source. And then there are artists like Visionaryserpent who have the same name but slightly changed by platform and how much I hate that, how am I supposed to know to look for VisSerpent and not VisionarySerpent?
I would like to be able to make some changes so as not to make the tagging process so cumbersome, especially searching for the artist’s name, but I can’t think of what kind of changes I could make.
I don’t think anything can be done here. It’s just a result of the platform’s limitations. If anything, it’s much easier here, because adding proper tags in booru galleries is a real hassle.
Also, the instance requires a proper artist attribution, so, again, this can’t be helped. And the process of figuring out artists’ names is pretty much the same on all platforms, galleries just have it easier thanks to aliases.
Actually, there is one change in tagging system that is overdue: sexes. I described the situation in more detail in this comment.
Hey, have you tried e1547? It’s an open source app for Android (no login required) to view and organize content and artists, kind of like Thunder for Lemmy.
I personally don’t use an e621 account, but I have a bookmark with the artists I follow, but this makes it a thousand times easier and directly from the palm of my hand, plus I can add tags to a blacklist in case I don’t want to see posts related to that tag, and I can see the most recent images of certain tags (or artist names) in scroll mode like Lemmy or Twitter.
I don’t usually use e621 that much aside from checking a few niche tags, although I made an account specifically to be able to blacklist certain tags. This app seems pretty cool, thanks. I already sank a few hours into a rabbit hole that is e621, but much more seamless and mobile friendly.
Also, I didn’t know about Thunder. I use Jerboa and recently checked out Voyager, both seem pretty nice.
Personally I use Eternity although for the first 2 months that I migrated to Lemmy I used Thunder, because honestly it was the only app that in my opinion was “usable”, and Jerboa was lacking a lot at that time.
Eternity is pretty cool in my opinion, I recommend you take a look at it too.
