BBC cut off one of their live casters for saying the Israeli captives looked healthy and replaced them with a caster who said they were mistreated. Western propaganda is getting ridiculous

@geneva_convenience Their one sided reporting on the subject, ignoring the horror stories of the Palestinian captives, clear marks of long and brutal torture in captivity and the fact that so many of them were minors held in captivity for months without being charged.

It is really sickening to read and watch the news these days, I follow news in Sweden, France, US, UK and internationally in one of the 4 languages I understand and I am horrified how disgusting out world has turned into.

The technique is likely feeding the hostages well by not feeding starving people. When you have a bargaining chip, you can’t let it die or starve or you have a double negative. The bargaining chip is dead and the other side can say you didn’t use all your resources keeping this chip in good health.

No it’s a secret technique developed by Hamas… It consists of giving them some compounds like H2O and other disgusting things like animal remains and plants on a regular schedule… Very nasty and disgusting…

This article just references a report from the news site N12 without a link. N12 does not have an English version of their site so I cannot find the report.

Two things: you should learn more about what the people of Gaza have been going through. What you’re describing isn’t so far off of what free Palestinians have been experiencing under siege.

Second: be more skeptical of news sources and find your news from multiple sources. This whole thread is about how biased the Jerusalem Post is.

The fact that you couldn’t even find this article at first and that now you’re taking it at face value makes it pretty clear you need to improve your news literacy.

I want both the people of Gaza and the hostages to be happy. Don’t you?

Second: be more skeptical of news sources and find your news from multiple sources. This whole thread is about how biased the Jerusalem Post is.

So I should trust screenshots of article headlines instead of the actual article?

Given the name of the lemmy community that this thread is posted in, is there any possibility that bias influences the opinion of credibility for the article?

Or is that kind of skepticism not welcomed?

The fact that you couldn’t even find this article at first and that now you’re taking it at face value makes it pretty clear you need to improve your news literacy.

Someone posted a screenshot of the article instead of posting the article. I tried to do my due diligence by reading the article to check its credibility but I could only see the websites homepage in the image.

I tried to use the search function to find the article but I’m on mobile and was unable to scroll the search results.

The fact that you want me to trust screenshots of article headlines but not the article says a lot.

So I don’t agree with you at all, I think the history of politicized communications out of Israel has been consistent enough and about enough different topics that I think it’s fair to have an escalated standard for substantiation. There have been so many preposterous lies or bizarre shifts of emphasis (e.g. we never bomb hospitals!) that the same norms that testify to institutional credibility of reliable sources, in this case do the opposite.

But that said, it’s not nothing that there’s reporting to this effect, and I have to say I’m pretty disappointed in this community for only replying to you with low effort posts, dogpiling of downvotes, whataboutism and abuse of moderation powers.

To me that represents a breakdown of communication and/or the lack of existence of norms.

1: the article didn’t say they were only given sea water, just that they were given sea water. And you can live on only sea water for at least 6 days.

2: Isn’t this how they were able to tell they were malnourished?

Everyone in Gaza is malnourished, might have something to do with the medieval siege Israel has enacted. These hostages look better fed than the general public ffs.

I think they’re correctly pointing out a contradiction in how different sources are being trusted or distrusted. And I don’t even agree with them! But it disappoints me to see responses to them that are barely above shitposting.

And also made them lie and say they were actually well looked after, following the legal requirements of keeping prisoners of war. Isreal knows nobody actually follows those laws, that’s why it’s ok that they don’t. Could you imagine if their enemies behaved better than them. That would be crazy.
