OpenBladeOS (formerly ‘edged_weaponry_AI’) was originally developed by MilTech ltd. in 2329 as a response to an unprecedented rise in the cost of gunpowder in an effort to equip the newly formed military force of the Corporate States of United Euramericafrica with top-of-the-line edged AI-enhanced weaponry.

Due to an unexpected conspiratorial sentience gained by the weapon, the project was quickly abandoned and released to the public domain as a failed experiment (though highly unusable due to its dependency on the improperly named OpenBlade hardware).

Famously, Charles Wellington would go on to fork the OpenBladeOS to build the free universal head-socket OpenWellington, but the OpenBladeOS itself would remain in the dark.

In 2544, the one remaining Puffe rFish would recover the last functioning OpenBlade from a museum of Open Technology and after many months of patching, gift it to its techno-mage student. But the sentient weapon would prove untameable.
