Stuff like this and the “base” he has created give off pretty harsh trump vibes. Here is a link confirming for those wanting one. Sorry I did not include it originally. https://www.cbc.ca/amp/1.712106

    Yes. That’s the plan.

He says he was wrong, the centrist media says “Well, that’s all fine and good then, he’s certainly prime minister material and no mistake!”.

Meanwhile, the fascist dogwhistle was already blown.

      Exactly.

And if you try to call it on that, they go “you’re twisting my words”, without actually ever explaining how their words are twisted.

It happened 15 years ago. Nobody would have even remembered it happening at all if this CPC ad wasn’t posted to remind us.

Why are we allowing political ads?

I’m sorry, aren’t you one of the “hurr, durr, Trudeau blackface” crowd?

So NOW you believe people can change?

I dressed up as Davy Jones once. Means I must hate squid faced pirates!

There is a difference there. RDJ is an actor playing a role that even he admits he wouldn’t get away with now (as funny as it is). Trudeau is a world leader who is super anti racist and PC. It looks bad when he is a hypocrite who is a racist.

I still don’t understand why it was such a big deal…

I get that blackface is an issue in bigger productions because yeah, they should really cast a black actor instead of putting makeup on a white one, but this was (as I understand it) a high school play where an actor of the correct race was probably not available (I know it would’ve been hard to find where I went to school), and even then, it most definitely wasn’t a paid gig, so the issue around stealing jobs is completely moot.

Is it insensitive? Oh yes. Is it actually hateful towards black / brown people? I don’t think so.

“They should learn the value of hard work” is on a completely different level, IMO. As if they don’t work as hard as anyone else.

I’m not a poilievre fan either. He too applauded the nazi. Practically our entire parliament did. I do not trust that he will change anything. I do not think Canada or the USA will survive the next 100 years.

Before mimes get nervous, let’s talk about Drama club and the notion of intent. “Both sides”-ing is such cheese.
