I’ve been working with a live distro recently and now im in love with the idea of the read-only base system. Knowing there is always the option of going back to a clean slate.
I want to avoid immutable distros since they are too locked down for my taste, but they showed me that running all apps through flatpak/appimage/distrobox is a workable option.
Setting up sandboxing so that everything is contained in a /home partiton shouldn’t be too difficult. Then i could just roll back to a clean btrfs snapshot before every update to keep my system close to a fresh install. I dont plan to update that often, maybe every 2-3 months.
Is there an noticeable performance impact if im running, let’s say, an arch distrobox container on an arch system? Any other sandboxing tools should i look into?

Have a look at VanillaOS it is immutable but far more flexible than stuff like silver blue
