Complete misrepresentation of events. Reform and the Tories can club together 40% of the vote on a good day, of those that even go out to vote. Of those voters, they are overwhelmingly arrogant small business owners and wannabe millionaires - the very same people who have always backed fascism, the precarious middle classes both terrified of proletarianisation as a result of the actions of big business and capital, and of labour clubbing together to make it unaffordable to run their businesses.
Of course some vulnerable people make up those groups, and other ladder puller old folks who are technically vulnerable people also make up a chunk of the vote share. But let’s not pretend that every impoverished or disabled person backs the far right. That’s quite the insult and infantalisation of those demographics which I’m sure was not your intention.

One of the great sleight-of-hands of parliamentary democracy in the UK is to convince people that a system where the candidate who a majority of voters don’t want is a legitimate winner. Then make a lot of noise about “landslides” and “victories” for governments elected by barely 30% of the electorate.
I never said ‘every’. Please don’t put words into my mouth. I personally know people who are in favour of worker’s rights, social welfare, social housing, NHS, but are fed propaganda on social media (they’ve mentioned they’re Rogan fans) and will then praise and defend people like farage and de pfeffel, denounce unions while getting screwed by their boss, complain about loonie lefties while they can’t afford to move out, but of course, the fault isn’t the rich, it’s all the asylum seekers’ fault they can’t get a council flat. The right are the only ones fighting for them.
You only have to listen to the people Femi spoke to in the lead up to the Clacton by-election to see how a lot of people are programmed to vote against their own interests. I know Clacton isn’t representative of the country, but it shows how easy it is to fool vulnerable people into voting against their own interests. Highest rate of PIP claimants, and they voted in a man who wants to cut it. There was that man who was on disability payments, looking after his ill mother, his mental health was declining, and the amount of mental gymnastics he did to defend farage was amazing to see. Femi managed to get through to him in the end, but it took a lot of convincing.
As someone the far right would love to deport from the country, or worse, yes I am very worried. I’m hoping we’ll start to move in the right direction, and Frogface will have his feet held to the fire and hopefully take the far right down with him, but what’s happening in the US could happen here.
