English is not my native tongue, but going by Wikipedia (written by native speakers I hope) “noodle” does in fact refer to a lot more than “long thin strands”, as does the source words nudel (German) / noedel (Dutch) in their respective languages.
I’m sure words have never once changed meaning in your country.
