Yeah, Gideon is a pushover NPC Boss. But he does have a boss health bar! All the Volcano Manor invaders are jealous of him.
And no, even at RL1 he isn’t difficult. You can nuke him during his speech, so that he dies before he can do anything. But even if you wing it, like I did on my first RL1, he isn’t that hard. I juggled him with Giant Hunt, or you could stun him to death with Thrusting Sword pokes (he doesn’t have enough poise).
On my NG+3 to NG+7 runs, I tried to one- or two-shoot him, pop a Golden Horn Tender, and see if I could run to Godfrey and defeat him in time. I always stood behind him, when he gave his speech and then electrocuted him with Ancient Dragons’ Lightning Strike; the douchebag got what he deserved.
Gideon, in my books, does not really count as a boss. He’s got a cool variety of moves, but he’s such a pushover. Maybe it’s different on RL1?
