I’m relieved after reading this that the “biorisks” aren’t people… yet.

I dunno, I use Garuda and it’s an Arch distro. It’s been super user friendly and I’ve only had to learn console stuff when I wanted to mess with stuff most casual users wouldn’t be bothered with.
And maybe you would say, “well that’s not really representative of a normal Arch install” but isn’t that the point of different distros? That anyone can build on functionality to do something like make Arch more user friendly?
Oookay… I’ll quote you if that will make you feel better…
While I mostly agree, one of my counterpoints is stuff where they describe what something looks like for 4 or so pages. I’m simply not gonna read it, full stop, no exception. Stuff like that is not challenging, it’s boring.
That was a pretty absolute sounding statement. And then when I pointed out that maybe it’s to practice being able to get through that kind of text, you pointed out that you have aphantasia and your brain doesn’t do that. Which is fine, but you said “it wasn’t challenging, it’s boring” instead of saying you have a mental condition.
And now you are all defensive and it’s just weird, so I’m gonna go. But if I’m the future you say what you mean instead of not what you mean, it may be received better.
I’m my mind that’s like arguing that exercises for arms are pointless but not mentioning you were born with no arms. It’s misleading to say you don’t like part of their list but not mention that you have a personal situation that makes you incompatible with it.
Alienate enough people to get a democratic majority in the house and Senate?
Maybe that’s the point of including those then, to exercise the part of your brain that keeps trying to shut itself down when you read those.
Yeah, but as an outsider you may not truly understand that is how our country operates. Appealing to intellect and ideals is for countries with better educated population. When you realize that Trump himself is just a mascot, everything that is happening makes a lot more sense.
I think of it in a way that parallels the invention of the power loom. Weaving was still around afterwards, but it absolutely transformed the industry. Hand weaving was still around, but it wasn’t economically viable anymore except as a luxury or hobby.
That transition led to riots as it destroyed people’s livings. This will absolutely be transformational.
These days you can still find hand woven stuff, but it is medicinally expensive. Once a certain amount of control and consistency exist for AI image making, it’s going to be the only thing most corporations and people use unless they are looking for a luxury experience or hobby.
As a reader it’s important to recognize that this is a different turn of the wheel.
I hear you, but what if maybe, I know this is crazy, the government only took from the people but didn’t actually provide any services to them. It could be soooo profitable!
I can’t believe no one has mentioned the Star Trek the Next Generation episode where Moriarty tries to escape the holodeck and they basically put him on a flash drive running a simulation of the galaxy to solve the problem.
All the previous examples were things operated by humans: shovel, crane, even the robotic surgery.
I am sure we can teach AI to do some or all of these someday, but demanding an example for one of them as completely autonomous makes it seem like you aren’t paying attention, aren’t participating in the discussion in good faith, and are just fishing for a “gotcha!” moment.
That’s why you are getting downvotes, in case you are curious.
If you do have a good faith argument, clarifying it might get people to listen to you and consider it.
Bazzite was my first and was great and easy. If you don’t like the immutable aspect, check out Garuda.
It’s when now? Oh shoot, we miscalculated the gravitational well displacement. We’ll just come back earlier when he’s expecting us.
Bazzite was my first go at Linux. For that it was great. It proved I didn’t have to give up my games if I switched.
Why learn the language of a second world country when you can learn the language of a first world country?
Kidding/not kidding
5th stage of grief… Acceptance.
We know we’re fucked and the government believes it’s role is to wield power, not help people.
We learn who we are and what we want by trying different things. If you aren’t sure about something, try it. And it’s ok to discuss it in advance to set guidelines or expectations if you need to.
The one thing that’s non negotiable is respect. If you invest time in someone you don’t really respect, eventually that time ends up wasted.
If you have trouble trusting, start small. Lay your head on her lap while you watch a movie or something.
None of what you say is wrong, but I will say that though my regular number is on permanent silence and straight to voicemail because of all the spam calls and texts, the Google voice number I have had for years has been largely free of all that BS and continues to work great.
Maybe they are tracking everything I do, but the product DOES work pretty great.
I didn’t get a Bambu printer because of the price or design, I got it because of its “just works” reputation, which it does.
Unless Qidi matches that ease, it isn’t equivalent, and that’s important to mention. Maybe it does?
And yeah, I don’t love the recent changes, but that’s only ideologically. Practically speaking it is still amazing.
