Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•Kansas City built an actually good streetcarEnglish
10·19 days agoThat’s a goddamned shame. European tram systems have figured out how to deal with that for years now, I don’t understand why the US refuses to do it

7·19 days agoI looked at the tech specs and it’s 924mm wide, which is slightly wider than the average cargo bike or trike. A typical bike lane is anywhere from 2 to 4m wide, which should leave enough space for passing or oncoming bike traffic I think.
destructdisc@lemmy.worldOPtoLeft Urbanism@lemmy.ml•What passes for "walkability" in Bangalore, India
2·23 days agoYes it is, and I don’t think anyone’s going to want to walk past multiple rubbish tips backing on to the sidewalks. Also the street just happens to be more or less empty, otherwise there are bound to be cars and bikes and autorickshaws sitting pretty right there

4·23 days agoThat’s also what you’d see in any Indian city when the road isn’t dug up like that

1·27 days agoYeah that’s nice to think about in theory, but in practice it’d be kicking open Pandora’s box of pandemonium

Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•Zohran Mamdani, in the New York City mayoral debate: "Free buses would cost $700M. Cuomo gave more—$959M—to Elon Musk for a failed Tesla factory."English
238·29 days agoThe news, I guess? He made some very bombastic proclamations that endeared him to leftists and then promptly walked them right back to the middle of the road when the Democratic establishment (including Obama 1.0) got their claws into him

216·29 days agoOff the top of my head, he’s very pro-NYPD (which I guess is the easiest way to get the cops to vote for him) and also he straight up said he’d have Zionists in his administration and not worry about what their support for Zionism means in practical terms, so. Yeah.

Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•Could it be that "just one more lane bro" does not, in fact, fix traffic congestion? No, it's those goddamned migrants that are the problem.English
18·29 days agoThe traffic-choked bit is the approach to the flyover (the one that was opened in 2005). The uncongested lanes next to it are an extended ramp section of the flyover that was very recently opened, so there aren’t as many vehicles using it yet.
As trials have already proven, all this does is move the congestion from one section of the road to the next.

9·1 month agoPublic transit and more affordable housing where people work is the actual solution.
… Therefore making bikes an excellent consequential solution to commuting. No one with a lick of sense is recommending that the only change required is that people switch to biking instead of driving.
Not that I’m disputing any of what you’re saying, but how is “No.” uppity?

politics @lemmy.world•Analysis: Charlie Kirk’s death shows political violence is now a feature of US life
593·2 months agoAh yes. The death of a tiny-faced, vile, white guy is what shows that. Not the thousands of mass shootings, or the Zionists running riot on college campuses, or ICE thugs (and pretend-ICE thugs) running rampant on the streets…it’s the extermination of vermin that did it. Sure.

You guys have bike lanes? 🙃
