In general, I think this season has felt the most like TOS like any of them. A lot of people forget how campy the original series was, and if anything, they definitely seem to be embracing it fully here, for better or worse. Episodes 1 and 4 in particular would have fit in very well in TOS.

The Greatest Trek had a great line in last week’s episode: “I don’t mind all the genre episodes, I’d just like one of the genres to be Star Trek.”

It’s kind of frustrating that 90s Trek actually gave an in-universe description for the ridgeless Klingons, because it really should have just been a case of “the aliens are the same, but this is how they’re portrayed now”. Like, my head-canon is that the TOS Enterprise looks just like the one in SNW; they just didn’t have the budget/technology to accurately show it in the 60s. But now, there gets to be a plot hole of why Kor has ridges now, but won’t 5 years later in “Errand of Mercy”, and then will again by the late 24th century in DS9.

I think I would have liked this episode better if only the scenes on the planet had been black and white.

Conventional wisdom has corrosion as one of the best, if not the best, in the game. Personally I’m fond of prismatic light because it eliminates the need for torches, blinds enemies, and gets bonus damage against undead and demonic. Not a big fan of blast wave because enemies killed in chasms only give half XP.

Yeah, in the last few minutes of the episode, I kept thinking how in TNG they would have discovered it was an anaphasic lifeform or some kind of telepathic residue or something, and here we don’t get any explanation. Maybe they’re trying to spin off Section 12 as some kind of “X-Files in space”.

I am glad to see Prodigy getting some love, but “Kobayashi” is actually one of my least favorite episodes of the series. I assume it’s on the list because of the fan service. I think a much better episode of S1 is “Time Amok”.

In the same vein as TNG “Disaster”, I’m really done of DS9 “Starship Down”.

IMO the scene of Pike making serious faces to show he was debating whether to intervene probably would have been better if some second character like Spock had interjected that maybe this planet was destined to be destroyed like Edith Keeler in “City on the Edge of Forever”.

This episode presents some interesting ethical issues, but I don’t think it really explores them enough. Mostly just dumb and fun.

I was horrified at the end when Pike said “I would have done the same in her place” because what she did was commit mass genocide approaching the scale of Kevin “we have no law to fit your crime” Uxbridge.

John De Lancie in Breaking Bad. Not that he was bad as Q, of course, but he didn’t usually have very meaty material to work with.

It was bad, but I don’t think it was her fault.

I used to work for Penn before Trump took away our funding and I got laid off. Even though eventually they folded and went groveling back to the administration, I never got my job back. So in a way, she’s responsible for me losing a job I had for 14 years.
