Technology@piefed.social•Microsoft drops AI sales targets in half after salespeople miss their quotas
1·1 天前The original sales targets were poor judgement, but isn’t this the best response Microsoft could have had after the fact?
They realized the targets were unrealistic, significantly lowered them, and didn’t blame the sales people. Many orgs would keep the unrealistic targets and just fire half the sales people

News@lemmy.world•Ghislaine Maxwell to seek release from prison: court filing
7·1 天前You can really tell who they want in jail and who they don’t when you compare it to Luigi Mangioni’s case. They were happy to release all sorts of documents and publicly state he is guilty (despite being presumed innocent in the eyes of the law)

71·2 天前you don’t know to use AI. no one here does. I do.
That’s hilarious. Everyone thinks they’re some kind of savant while using LLMs. The reality is quite different
AI is a useful tool, but people who misuse it, primarily due to overreliance, end up creating more work than AI is solving

Technology@lemmy.world•Half of the US Now Requires You to Upload Your ID or Scan Your Face to Watch PornEnglish
22·2 天前It’s a coalition of groups with different purposes
One group wants to ban porn entirely
One group want to collect data on everyone. Your porn habits can be valuable if you’re a future political rival
Some people believe it will prevent children from seeing porn
Others use it as a way to assert control over sex workers, especially female sex workers
Probably a few other smaller groups too. End of the day, none of them have your interests at heart

Not The Onion@lemmy.world•Republicans Complain That Cars Have Become Too Safe, Say It Must Be ReversedEnglish
1·2 天前You’re assuming what they’re saying is true. Many other countries have those same safety features without their cars costing nearly as much

Not The Onion@lemmy.world•Republicans Complain That Cars Have Become Too Safe, Say It Must Be ReversedEnglish
1·2 天前Just had a bit of a realization on this one. The point of this is for them to do nothing, isn’t it? Specifically blame it one something people will push back on (safety features), so they can throw up their hands and say, “we tried, but they won’t let us bring down the cost of cars!”

Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•Zohran Mamdani hires car-hating activist Ben Furnas for NYC transportation team: ‘War on drivers’English
11·2 天前Cars are fine. Car dependence is not. If you say something broad like “cars might just have been our worst idea” someone will simply point to the cases where it’s unambiguously helpful such as ambulances, fire trucks, etc. and dismiss you entirely - along with dismissing the idea of walkable cities

Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•Zohran Mamdani hires car-hating activist Ben Furnas for NYC transportation team: ‘War on drivers’English
1·2 天前They’re trying to claim the playgrounds will be in the middle of the street. They even post a picture of an obviously poorly designed playground in between streets to associate the two ideas
This is despite the fact the whole point of closing low traffic streets to make a playground and cul de sac is so we don’t have to put a playground in a literal street
It’s propaganda, plain and simple

Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•Zohran Mamdani hires car-hating activist Ben Furnas for NYC transportation team: ‘War on drivers’English
2·2 天前I appreciate that they linked to the actual transportation agenda, but when you look at the article and agenda side-by-side, it becomes really obvious how dishonest NY Post is being here
NY Post is outright lying about parks in the middle of streets. I get their biases, but shouldn’t they at least pretend to be honest?

You Should Know@lemmy.world•YSK that americans can now deduce private jet expenses from their taxes
1·5 天前That’s true for many planes, but not a Cessna 150. Hangars are generally very cheap, if you can get one. Depends on the area, but couple hundred dollars per month. Fuel mileage is comparable to most SUVs and trucks. Insurance is cheaper than car insurance, although maintenance is a bit higher
I don’t own a car, but I do own a plane. It has been cheaper for me than the average American pays each year for their cars
Taldan@lemmy.worldto
You Should Know@lemmy.world•YSK that americans can now deduce private jet expenses from their taxes
1·5 天前Yes. My point was that’s less than the average new car, which most Americans buy. The average American could own one if they wanted

4·5 天前Do people actually want infotainment screens?
The only thing I can think of wanting a screen for is a backup camera. I much prefer buttons when possible. I thought infotainment screens were just a way for manufacturers to save money on buttons. Why would you want one? Is there something I’m missing?

Today I Learned@lemmy.world•TIL the number of pedestrians killed by drivers in the U.S. rose by 70 percent between 2010 and 2023English
101·8 天前That’s the end result of car centric infrastructure. The bad drivers couldn’t afford to pay the full rates they would be charged. If you kick 10-20% of the population off the road, that is a whole lot of people siddenly unable to work
That many people suddenly stopping working would destroy the only thing Americans truly value - shareholder profits
We have no alternatives to driving. As such the worst drivers you’ve ever seen will continue to drive by necessity

And did you know Sudan has the most pyramids of any country in the world?
