I got into it with someone claiming there is nothing wrong with being apolitical about a month back on asklemmy. I argued apolitical people abdicate their responsibility as citizens in a democracy and are a significant reason we’re in this mess. Ended up cutting off replying to them after a bunch of strawman bs back from them.

I hope that guy is having fun with the cost to fill up right now.

Again, I don’t get to set my own schedule, they’re determined by these numbers that while arbitrary, are rigid. Drop a kid off an hour late to school every day and have fun explaining that to a truancy officer, or tell your boss you’re leaving work an hour early to catch some sunlight and see how that goes.

The more I think about it, 8 am sunrise if we did permanent DST in late Dec/early January would be shit too. We should just split the difference, lol

4:30 sunrise in June just feels wrong to me.

I don’t need the sun to come up at 4:30 in the morning during the summer, and I am a pretty skilled runner. I’m just not a morning person.

It’s also dependent on where you live. Someone living on the easternmost part of a time zone is going to tend to want DST over standard as compared to someone living on the westernmost part. I live in the easternmost part of the Eastern US time zone and I’d pick DST if I had the choice.

You’re reminding me of something my late grandmother, who was born before the Great Depression, had to say about gay people 20-30 years ago that I found pretty profound. Especially for her generation.

“I don’t know why all these angry people claim that being gay is a choice. People are so mean to them, and some of them get beaten half to death or worse. Why would anyone choose that?”

She followed that up with consternation that they had to go and choose the word “gay” as their label. “It used to just mean happy, why couldn’t they pick a different word!” Which I always found to be such a quaint gripe; she felt like a word she loved was appropriated from her. Man I miss that sweet woman.

I’ll usually put a pint in for 10 seconds or so. It softens the ice cream pretty uniformly, just a bit more on the edges than the center.
