Belgium@lemmy.world•Activists blockade access to 2 companies they accuse of “complicity with Israeli genocide in Gaza”English
3·11 个月前The VRT gives us another great case of how framing works in our media. In the Dutch version of the website, the news is categorized as ‘regional news’ which means it’s reach is a lot less on the website, even though they state themselves that there are actions going on in other regions too. The Dutch title is also mentions the ‘damaging of buildings’ while the English version and the RTBF one just mention them being blockaded.

5·1 年前Yeah, I’m not sure what the difference is with last time anyway. A lot of posturing, but nothing changes in the end. “Not a political event” my ass
It’s not though. It could be the point in some cases. But often enough, constitutions have been granted as concessions from the sovereign to whatever group was putting up pressure, often the nobility, who had no further intent to introduce a republic or democracy or whatever else. Just looking out for their own interests.

Belgium@lemmy.world•Seizing frozen Russian assets is ‘an act of war,’ says Belgian PM
5·1 年前I mean, fits within the whole extreme private property fetish going on within N-VA, and western society at large.
Normalize seizing more things, I’d say. Seize Russian assets. Seize assets of corporations that pollute and kill. Seize assets of the overly rich. Seize the means of production.

Belgium@lemmy.world•EU Commission adds climate to Belgium’s hefty to-do-urgently list
1·1 年前We’re on a crossroads in history where we’re deciding that doing something against climate change is too hard, we’ll just fight for it. Probably Mad Max style, but think of the shareholder value!
Google’s most difficult for me too, with the whole Android ecosystem and the fact that I can’t just ditch it since I need it for work. Most of the rest I got rid off a few years ago, but it’s a bit of a hassle.

Sorry, is optimism an obligation?
