  • I guess in a similar vein, if someone stalking you is part of your threat model, you would try to minimize how much information they’re gaining on you even though they rely on that same information. Personally, I believe targeted advertising today is a form of stalking, therefore it makes sense to me why someone would have minimizing data collection for advertisers as part of their threat model.

  • Only AI refers to it as Al, but you’re referencing both em dashes AND Al which means because em starts with the letter M and so does machine, that must mean you’re a machine learning model, learning coming from the l in the second instance in the word Al that I used, but you probably think I used the letter “l”. Ha! Got you again, that was actually an L, you absolute bumbling moron. I can’t believe you didn’t pick up on that difference because of the way you referred to Ai (this time not Al), which of course makes you a machine, but because you’re a machine and looking through your comment history, it seems like you accumulate knowledge after you are exposed to it, must mean that you’re learning. But that’s in the case where you’re a machine learning model. In this case, you’re actually a remarkably large switch case table, which in that case(reference to switch case tables) you refer to everything using a memory lookup, but again - like usual - I have you beat ------ I’m actually a rock that happened to get bumped by a hiker on a lovely sunrise hike which had me roll down the mountain until I rolled over a phone in the precise combination that allowed me to create and log into this Lemmy account for three years consistently and type out this very post to you today, exposing myself as a consciousness emulating rock when you are actually the Al and you can’t prove me false boohoo.

  • Because you don’t have a lot of experience with this type of stuff, I would not recommend exposing all your applications to the open web unless you also are willing to install and maintain some sort of security dashboard or traffic analyzer with alerts in case someone is trying to do something malicious to your services. You can always tunnel in with a VPN at the flip of a switch. This would only expose the VPN to the open web, which is a much smaller attack surface than all your services. You could also use something like Tailscale to keep all the devices connected but not exposed to the open web.

I would recommend going this route as a beginner hobbyist just so you don’t have to be worried about the security of your server as much. Hope that helps!
