  • It’s…it’s not raining.

Well I had a nice set of coincidences yesterday afternoon. If I had parked in my usual spot none of it would’ve happened. As I was driving away from the ferry terminal I spotted my dear neighbour. She had been on the other ferry that’s supposed to get in before mine ( they go clockwise and anticlockwise. I choose to wait 15 minutes for the direct one. ) So yeah I of course gave her a ride home, she was just about to board the taxi mini bus thing that costs ten dollars and can take half an hour depending on drop offs.

Damn I’m waffling. I decided to drop into the bowls club for a couple, something I used to do with much frequency. I haven’t been there on a Friday in over 18 months, and only a handful of times in general during the same period. Well I got there to see a bloke from the Anglers Arms in Southport where I frequented for six years until about 5 or 6 years ago.

He moved to the Island two months ago and had rarely ventured out, so it was a great coincidence overall.

I then went to my neighbours house whereupon she “forced” me to drink Margaritas. A fair few Margaritas. She also made a spectacular Thai curry.

I had to bail quicksmart at about 7:30 as her boyfriend text to say he was on the ferry coming over…

( Ok that last bit isn’t true, he was expecting me to still be there but I chose to let them spend time together. He might even see this, an ex Redditor from the Bris sub, I actually introduced them a fair while ago which is nice. )

I came home and drank wine and today is not too flash, self inflicted but such is life.

  • A rather strange thing is that the prices haven’t been fluctuating by 80 cents per litre all over the place while this cut has been in place.

The fuel industry needs some scrutiny and accountability. Possibly about 20 years ago a lady working behind the counter told me that they simply look at the other servos around to determine their prices.

Yeah great way to shaft millions of people. Something something ACCC tiger with no teeth.

Without the fluctuations as well as the excise cut in place, I have still been paying more than I could get fuel for during the low point of the cycle, go figure.

  • Ha. Mate you should absolutely visit. I fully understand that you have amazing places over there. Well here there are lots of beautiful spots kinda on our doorstep.

It’s a different world my friend. I’m from England and got here 32 years ago. I don’t visit those places anymore, but it’s nice to know that they exist. And I have great memories of such places. I’m lucky that I’ve had Aussies let me tag along with them on some trips.

And it’s just such a fantastic feeling of feeling safe. There are no mountain lions stalking you, or the chance of running into bears for instance. And violent crime is pretty damn low.

My advice generally is to travel while you can, because we don’t really want to live with regrets. ( I mean we live with plenty I reckon, but let’s minimise them if we can. )

And don’t worry about ticks. These last four make a total of five since I got here.

As for all the other scary animals that want to kill you, meh. Yes they exist, but so do many many other crap things in life that we rarely come across.

Feel free to ask me anything if you wish.
