I use a similar but not quite so redneck version every time I go camping. I have an air mattress specifically designed to fit in the bed of the truck with cutouts for the wheel wells and just use a ton of blankets to keep warm. If it’s supposed to rain or be cold, I set up one of those pop-up canopies over the bed and just lower it onto the bed rails when I go to sleep. Works awesome.
