For this Sunday Kino Night, first up is Don’t Look Now, We’re Being Shot At (1966), a French slapstick comedy about two French dudes and a downed British bomber crew who must make their way across occupied France during WW2 to escape from the Nazis and flee back to Britain. Hilarity and dude-rocking both ensue as they bumble their way into being slapstick antifa supersoldiers. This is considered one of the all-time classic French comedies, being held in a similar regard by French boomers as, say, Caddyshack (1980) or Blazing Saddles (1974) is among Usians. It remains one of the biggest hits ever at the French box office, and the magnum opus of director Gerard Oury, who specialized in silly comedies.

Next up is The Rider (2017), a horse-themed drama from Nomadland (2020) director Chloe Zhao. After being injured at a rodeo, a horserider is told never to ride again, but god damn it, that doesn’t make for a very interesting movie, so, of cours,e he makes every effort to get back in the saddle. Nice-looking cinematography in this. Excellent reviews, too. Let’s check it out.

We’ll start at 8PM EST on Hextube, right here:
