This isn’t always possible in some regions. I used to live in the midwest. Only mass-market theaters existed in a pretty sizable city (~400k). There was one theater that showed slightly older releases at a discount, but nothing boutique.
Where I am now (Bay Area), there are loads of smaller theaters that have sofas, serve glasses of beer, deliver pizza to your location in the theater, etc. Agreed that pricing in these theaters is less egregious.
You should find some small local cinemas. Sure screen is smaller, but so is the price and the atmosphere is great.
